RPS - 150 Self Contained Ultrasonic Sensor |
|
 |
The RPS-150 family of self-contained, wide
beam angle, ultrasonic sensors can be used as proximity sensors or level
sensors. The advantage of this sensor is that the target does not have
to be at right angles with the sensor in order to be detected. A flat
target can tilt up to 35 degrees and still be detected. For set-up
purposes an LED indicator is provided. When in the non-detect state the
LED is Green and when in the detect state the LED is Red. The RPS-150
can be operated in two modes: a proximity and a hysteresis mode,
described to the right.
The frequency of operation is 38.5kHz.
There are two ranges available in this model: 2" to 40" or 5" to 80".
The sensor is available with a 120VAC power input or a 20 - 30VDC
input. It also features a quick disconnect receptacle. The housing is
constructed of plastic valox and has standard 30mm X 60mm limit switch
mounting dimensions, as well as side holes for mounting the sensor on
its side. The output consists of two solid state relays N.O. N.C., and
can switch 2 - 130VAC or VDC up to 100mA DC or 50mA AC continuous. The
relay outputs are short circuit protected and isolated up to 1500 volts

TBT/TBR-600 Thru-Beam Ultrasonic Sensor |
|
 |
The TBT/TBR-600-40 is
primarily a Thru-Beam sensor consisting of one transmit and one receive
transducer, in separate and self contained housings. It can count up to
200 objects per second, as they pass through its ultrasonic beam, from 0
to 40 inches. The sensors can also be mounted in a Reflective position
to detect targets. The Thru-Beam and Reflective mounting options provide
the user with simple and accurate ways to detect the presence of various
objects. An adjustable Delay control is added to vary the output re-sponse
of the solid state relays to the time, or count rate, of a moving
target. An adjustable Sensitivity control is added to provide highly
accurate target detection. P1 on the receiver (TBR) is labeled
sensitivity adjustment. The LED is pro-vided to show signal strength.
The sensor is factory set with P1 fully clockwise (cw), making the LED
solid red in color.
When P1 is fully
counterclockwise (ccw), the LED will be solid green in color. After
positioning the sensors at the required distance, a typical adjustment
is performed by turning P1 ccw, causing the LED to change from a solid
red to a mostly red condition. The unit is now properly adjusted. To
achieve greater sensitivity for smaller targets, turn P1 ccw so that the
LED will be more green in color. To make the sensors less susceptible to
heavy dirt build up, turn P1 cw so that the LED will be brighter red in
color.

RPS-3000PVC, RPS-4000 Ultrasonic Level
Sensor |
|
 |
These self-contained
Ultrasonic Level Sensors provide level control of both liquid and bulk
materials. This gives the user a viable alternative to bubblers, floats,
capacitance probes, and pressure transmitters.
With sensing ranges
of 30 and 40 feet respectively many tanks are within reach. The
incorporation of a microprocessor design makes it possible to achieve
signal conditioning. This gives the ultrasonic sensor the ability to
process the return ultrasonic echo and distinguish between false targets
and real targets.
With the
incorporation of a microprocessor into the design of the RPS-3000PVC and
RPS-4000 ultrasonic level sensors, many of the common problems facing
long range sensing applications have been overcome. Software was then
written to optimize the performance characteristics of the sensors. The
artificial intelligence analyzes and conditions the return ultrasonic
echo. This process filters out any false echoes and electrical noise. An
additional task that the microprocessor does is temperature
compensation.

RPS-100
Controller With Remote Sensing Head
|
|
 |
The RPS-100 is the
first of the RPS series and has a proven track record of reliability.
Since its introduction in 1979, the RPS-100 has proven itself in
versatility and ease of operation. The remote transducer allows for
mounting of the sensor head in cramped spaces while the controller is
out of the way. The ranging and proximity modes provide the versatility
of simple detection, or actual distance measuring.
The isolated form C
relay furnishes N.O. and N.C. outputs, and with the addition of the
RPS-500 card various analog outputs are supplied. The RPS-100 sensor,
which operates at a frequency of 38.5kHz, has a broad sensing beam which
allows for detection of an object at greater angles of tilt. Sensing
ranges available for the RPS-100 include 2" to 14", 5" to 72", and 10"
to 240". Mounting flanges, LED indicator, ranging potentiometer, and
6-ft. transducer cable are included. Optional cable lengths are

RPS-102
Controller With Remote Sensing Heads |

 |
The RPS-102 has 2
multiplexed transducers with independent range control adjustments, LED
indicators, and form C relay outputs. This sensor also has a unique
master and slave feature which enables many of the same units to be used
within close proximity of one another without cross-talk interference.
For example, if three sensors are needed in a close area, one sensor
would be left as a master and the other two would be slaves. This is
done by means of the X IN, X OUT, and GND connection on the board.
One sensor (master)
would send a signal by means of the X OUT and GND terminals. These would
be connected to the X IN and GND terminals of the other two sensors
(slaves). With the sensors connected in this way, all units would be
transmitting and receiving at the same time. This then would prevent
cross-talk and enable all three sensors, or all six transducers, to be
used at the same time in close proximity of one another. There are also
separate turn ON and turn OFF DELAY potentiometers provided for each
transducer. All four DELAY controls are located alongside the black
module inside the enclosure box. The remote transducers allow for
mounting of the sensor heads in cramped spaces while the controller is
out of the way. The (2) independent isolated form C relays furnish N.O.
and N.C. outputs. This sensor, which operates at a frequency of 38.5kHz,
has a broad sensing beam which allows for detection of an object at
greater angles of tilt. Sensing ranges available for the RPS-102 include
2" to 14", 5" to 72", and 10" to 240". Mounting flanges, LED indicators,

proximity of one another without cross-talk interference. For example,
if three sensors are needed in a close area, one sensor would be left as

RPS-302 Controller
With Remote Sensing Head |
|
 |
The RPS-302 has 2 sealed, multiplexed
transducers with independent range control adjustments, LED indicators,
and form C relay outputs. This sensor also has a unique master and slave
feature which enables many of the same units to be used within close
proximity of one another without cross-talk interference. For example,
if three sensors are needed in a close area, one sensor would be left as
a master and the other two would be slaves. This is done by means of the
X IN, X OUT, and GND connection on the board. One sensor (master) would
send a signal by means of the X OUT and GND terminals.
These would be
connected to the X IN and GND terminals of the other two sensors
(slaves). With the sensors connected in this way, all units would be
transmitting and receiving at the same time. This then would prevent
cross-talk and enable all three sensors, or all six transducers, to be
used at the same time in close proximity of one another. There are also
separate turn ON and turn OFF DELAY potentiometers provided for each
transducer. All four DELAY controls are located along side the black
module inside the enclosure box. The remote transducers allow for
mounting of the sensor heads in cramped spaces while the controller is
out of the way. The (2) independent and isolated form C relays furnish
N.O. and N.C. outputs. This sensor, operates at a frequency of 222kHz
for the 14" and 36" ranges and 150kHz for the 72" range. This sensor has
a narrow sensing beam. Sensing ranges available for the RPS-302 include

RPS-8000 Controller
With Remote Sensing Heads |
|
 |
The RPS-8000A was designed for
applications where 2 or more sensors are needed in a general area. The
RPS-8000A can handle up to 8 TSR-3 transducers, and the RPS-8001A up to
8 SSR-3 transducers (stainless steel). These transducers are multiplexed
so they can all operate in close proximity with each other without
interference. Each sensor has three outputs: an analog voltage, analog
current, and form C relay. The Analog outputs each have a zero and span
control as well as an inverting switch if a decreasing signal with
distance is desired. There is a 25 turn pot provided for each relay
output so the detect point can be adjusted.
Another feature is the instrument's
ability to compensate for temperature changes. To accomplish this sensor
"0" looks at a fixed distance and adjusts the circuit to give a proper
reading. Since all the other channels use this same compensated circuit
they, too, become compensated for temperature, humidity, and pressure
changes. The RPS-8000A also has the ability to be controlled from an
external source. When operated in this mode the user can direct any of
the 8 sensors to output "S1". This then requires the need for only a
single input. Another external control is the RATE. This controls the
rate at which the sensors will update.
